Satellite TV Receivers - The Differences

Satellite TV has mushroomed in popularity since its introduction using the small dishes around the 1990's, and for very good reasons. With the high picture quality and the multitude of channels to select from, satellite television has become a very popular choice. But, buying satellite TV is not quite just as simple of installing a dish to receive the service, because satellite dishes will require satellite TV receivers in order to work. Knowing what choices are available for satellite TV receivers will enable you to get the best out of your satellite service.

For Use With One TV Only

Satellite TV receivers are mainly designed to use with a single television only, which is different from cable television, cable in your home can be wired to enable you to view a number of different channels simultaneously. In comparison, a satellite system is only able to be tuned to one single channel, no matter how many televisions you have. It is important to bear this in mind when you are thinking of purchasing a satellite service, you may want to request a number of satellite TV receivers to match the number of televisions you have. Your service provider might have a receiver that can deliver signals to multiple televisions, thus allowing you to view two different programs on two different TV's.

Require a DVR?

DVR stand for Digital Video Recorders and are a fairly recent innovation that can alter the way you watch your television. Used for television recording for later viewing, they have a higher standard of picture quality than a normal VCR and they are blessed with much more storage capacity, therefore allowing for more programs to be recorded without the hassle of having to change video recording tapes. Buying a DVR can be a little expensive, but many satellite service providers offer deals on satellite TV receivers that have a DVR already built in. As the satellite TV companies usually only charges a rental fee for the receiver, this can give you a great introduction to the convenience of having a DVR without the initial high cost.

High Definition TV

HDTV stands for High Definition Television and is a new technology that allows for higher resolution images on your television, this means a much clearer, sharper and more realistic picture for a viewer. So many providers offer satellite TV receivers that are able to receive an HDTV signal that allow you to view your programs with a high-definition picture. Should you decide that you would like to choose a high definition satellite TV receivers, ensure that you have a television that is HDTV compatible or you will be wasting the extra money. Make sure that you choose the best deal option for you and you could end up getting the most that is possible from a satellite TV experience.
